Jan 2009 Newsletter
Greetings,                                                                                                            Jan 20, 2009

New President of the United States - No doubt most of us were watching the innaguaration
of our New President  Barrack Obama.  HIs speech was very impressive, to the point and
outlined the challenges ahead for his administration, but also the challenges that the citizens of
the United States face.  He reenforce the Constitution and our heritage an a Nation.  Everyone
is looking toward for the Leadership that is needed as he put it "Remake the United States."  I
look at what we need to do for Association to make it strong and viable.

Year 2008 - 2008 has been a year of many events for the members of the 15th Med
Association.  We had a very successful 2008 Reunion that has brought need changes.  We
had our annual changes in the Officers of the Association.  The most significant issue brought
up at the 2008 Reunion was funding of retrieving Document of the 15th Med Battalion.  A big
thanks goes to Paul Troop and the Pilots and Officers or the 15th Med Battalion the pooled
together donations that funded trips to Washington DC made by Paul Troop and Col Bill
Downey to get it started.  The other events were that there were many members facing
illnesses/troubles of themselves or family.  I thank the members for the prayers and support
that went to all those who were ill or troubles.  It raise their moral and the prayers were heard.
We did have one of our members pass away during the summer.

Stephan Guber - I receive an email earlier this month from Stephen Guber's wife.  Here is
the email I received:

Don by phone or address please email me you request for them.

15th Med Bn Documents - I want to thanks all those who donated to funding the trip/s to
Washington DC to retrieve documents that we found by Paul Troop.  The first trip made by Col
BIll Downey and Paul Troop in May of 2008 made it possible to retrieve about 900 documents.
Paul Troop has made two more trips since then.  The 2nd trip he got almost 400 documents.
The 3rd trip I think he got another 250 documents.  The 3rd trip documents I have got yet.  I am
still working on the previous 1300 documents.   Currently the years, 1965, 1966, 1967 and
1968 have been posted.  I am working on 1969 which are the most difficult to organize and
post.  Many of the documents are legel length (14 inches).  I must scan them in the bmp format
which take a good deal of time.  There are also many awards in the 1969 documents that need
editing.   I have been editing out all the SSNs by erasing them on the .jpg files.  This is
sensitive information that I don't want to post.  Hopefully there are not any other documents
with SSNs on them.

I have make the documents to be only viewed by those who are 15th Med Members.
Currently the only way to view the documents is to be a member of the FORUMS and have the
15th Med Members permission level.  The link to the documents is in a board of the FORUMS
that only 15th Med Members can view.   One must make application to the FORUMS and I will
raise your level of permission to be able to access these documents.

FORUMS -  The FORUMS are similiar to the MSN Discussion Board.  I recommend every
members to register on the FORUMS.   One of the greatest advantages we have with the
FORUMS is that the Admin (webmaster) has full control of all the boards and the ability to reset
any password forgotten.  Members can response or create the own post (topic) on any of the
available boards.   I did had to make some changes to the FORUMS.   A few months ago the
FORUMS was hit with a lot of solicitors from all over the world.  These solicitors were posting
drugs, gambling, porn and other things we don't need.  Thus my counter measure was not to
allow just any one to self activate their registration.  Now one must be approved.  We are not a
isolated FORUM that was hit.  I am also the Admin of a Gaming Clan.  The FORUMS of the
Gaming Clan I am Admin was hit hard also.   I contacted other Gaming Clans and their
FORUMS were hit.  All those who have any type of discussing boards/forums had to restrict
application to registration like I did with our FORUMS.  This has stopped them and I have all IP
address of those who apply and are not approved.  This has been done bases on the
discussion I have had with other Gaming Clans and Webmasters.

2009 Reunion -  The 2009 Reunion is only 2 1/2 months away.  If you have not made your
reservations at the Crown Reef Hotel I suggest you do soon.   If you need another registration
form to be sent to our Treasurer please let me know.   I know I have a lot of catching up to do.
There are many members who have tried to add their names to the 2009 Reunion list.  If you
have trouble please let me know and I will add you name.  Members who are not registered on
the MSN website will not be able to add the names.  Please contact me concerning that.

It has not been mention to me yet if we are going to have an Auction/Raffle.  Last few
Reunions we have had many different things to either Auction or Raffle off.   If any of you
members who plan to attend have something we can auction or raffle off, please bring it to the
2009 Reunion.  If you would like to bring a guest please do.  We are open to guests of the
members and other Associations to attend our Reunion.  Last year the gas prices were in the 3
dollar range.  Hopefully gas prices with still stay below 2 dollars and more members will be able
to attend.

Digital Beauty Designs - Bobby Brooks wife Linda will be at the 2009 Reunion.  Last year she
took the old Vietnam photos of many of our members and made them into a Comemorative
Scrapbook Page.  On our main website there is button where you can veiw the 2008 and what
the 2009 Comemorative Scrapbook Page will look like.  Please bring a photo of you to the
2009 Reunion if you wish Linde to make one of thes Comemoratice Scrapbook Pages.

15th Med Bn Remembered - I had the CW3 Ron Killingsworth contact me about making contact
with those of the 15th Med Bn that remember him during the years mention in this post made
on the FORUMS.  His post in the board of Visiting Veterans.

"I was assigned to 191st MI Det from 71 to 72 and was stationed at Fire Support Base Mace,
close to Xuan Loc and near the village of Gia Ray.  The 15th Med had a med evac station on
Mace.  I was in charge of a Counterintelligence and IPW section at Mace and we used to
interrogate wounded prisoners of war while the doctors and medics worked on them before
med evacing them back to a hospital.  We sent the intelligence info back out to the unit in
contact with the enemy.  I am trying to locate 15th Med doctors and medics who were on Mace
at this time.  There was a dentist there also, we called him "Painless".  I used to take the
medics down to the village and they would perform first aid on the villagers.  If you were with
the 15th Med at FSB Mace, please contact me at
retmiagt@aol.com.  CW3 Ron Killingsworth,
retired"

Saber Magazine - Mike Bodnar is our Saber Magazine writer.  I thank him for all the efforts he
has made in writing the articles.  His job is not easy and we could help him by sending him any
stories that would be of great interest.  These stories can be current events to the events or
stories that have not been told about our tours in Vietnam while serving with the 15th Med Bn.
MIke's last article was only 1/2 page long.   I am use to reading a page about the 15th Med
Association.  I think we can even revisit old issues of the Saber and make comments about
them that Mike can write about.

I hope to once more put out Newsletters once a month.  Until then I will continue to improve
our main website, add more documents and keep you updated.
